Reaching out to help disaster victims

The Prudential Foundation is contributing $220,000 to support ongoing relief efforts in China and Myanmar
The magnitude 7.9 earthquake that hit China’s Sichuan Province on Monday has had a devastating toll on the more than 15 million people who live there. And in cyclone-hit Myanmar, more than two million have been left destitute.

As an initial response, Prudential Financial’s philanthropic arm, The Prudential Foundation, is donating $220,000 toward relief efforts. The Foundation is also matching Prudential employees’ contributions to disaster relief organizations, including the American Red Cross International Disaster Relief Fund, or The Prudential CARES Disaster Relief Fund.

"Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones and whose lives have been devastated by these events," says John Strangfeld, chairman and CEO.

Along with the donation from The Prudential Foundation, Everbright Pramerica Fund Management Co., Ltd.—the company’s asset management joint venture in Shanghai, China—has donated 1 million yuan (approximately $143,000) toward relief efforts in the disaster area.
