Term Life Insurance

Image Term insurance provides protection for a limited period of time, such as 10, 15, 20, or 30 years, and pays a benefit if the insured dies during this period. Although term policies do not accumulate cash value, many do offer a feature that allows you to convert to a permanent policy within a certain time. This can be beneficial if you'd like to buy a permanent policy but your budget right now does not allow it, or you like having the option to convert to a permanent policy later on.

Whole Life Insurance

Whole life is a type of permanent life insurance. It’s called permanent because a whole life policy provides life-long protection and is guaranteed to do so by the insurance company. With whole life, you pay a fixed premium for life, instead of the increasing premiums found on renewable term life insurance policies.

Since the word “term” in term life insurance means a period of time, one could say that the term for whole life insurance is the term of all of your life. It is not technically called lifetime term insurance, but in a way it could be described that way.

What is Life Insurance?

Its function is to help beneficiaries financially after the owner of the policy dies. It can also be a form of savings in the long run if you purchase a plan, which offers the option of contributing regularly. Additionally, a little known function of life insurance is that it can be tied in with a person's pension plan. A person can make contributions to a pension that is funded by a life insurance company. These are considered private pension arrangements.

Top 10 Life Insurance Purchasing Tips

1. Don’t wait till you REALLY NEED the coverage! By that time you’ll be that much older, you’ll be sick or you will have encountered a health issue that will cause your premiums to be significantly more than you anticipated. That is of course if you can even qualify for the coverage!

2. The highest financial rating doesn’t necessarily mean better coverage. The important thing is to at least be looking at an “A” rated company. There is little, if any difference between one company's term policy and another, so basing a decision solely on ratings won’t always get you best deal. The highest rated companies tend to be more conservative in their underwriting and attaining the “best available” with them will be a bit more difficult.

Why should I buy life insurance?

Many financial experts consider life insurance to be the cornerstone of sound financial planning. It can be an important tool in the following situations:

1.Replace income for dependents

If people depend on your income, life insurance can replace that income for them if you die. The most commonly recognized case of this is parents with young children. However, it can also apply to couples in which the survivor would be financially stricken by the income lost through the death of a partner, and to dependent adults, such as parents, siblings or adult children who continue to rely on you financially. Insurance to replace your income can be especially useful if the government- or employer-sponsored benefits of your surviving spouse or domestic partner will be reduced after your death.
